A recent video provided by NASA is yet another demonstration of how nature surprises every day. A sea of sand coming out of the Sahara Desert towards the Amazon rainforest, making a journey of more than 2000 km.
The data were collected between the years 2003 to 2007, however the society only had access to the information recently.
The estimate is that approximately 182,000 tons of sand from the Sahara will cross the Atlantic Ocean to reach America, of which about 28 million arrive each year in the Amazon basin.
Dr. Hongbin Yu., Research coordinator reports that "The entire ecosystem of the Amazon depends on the dust of the Sahara to replenish its reserves of lost nutrients."
